Walking in Colombia focuses on the Andean region, combining cultural and trekking activities along the itinerary. The program starts with a visit to the charming state of Boyaca, north from the capital, which has some of the best-preserved colonial towns still keeping their traditional way of life. Here we find a hidden jewel called Paramo de Ocetá, a relatively unknown highland with a fantastic circular hike through pristine nature. Then we will travel back in time to the archeological sites of San Agustin and its beautiful natural sceneries in the southern Huila’s state with landscapes ranging from desert to green highlands. We also will enjoy the traditional city of Popayan on our way to the coffee area. At last, we will experience first-hand the coffee production, trek in the Los Nevados National park and enjoy the relaxing towns and landscapes that make this a must see in a trip to Colombia.

During this trip, we will take you into the cultural and natural diversity of Colombia’s Caribbean coast. Even though the geographical distances are relatively short, the way of life and landscapes differ greatly from the arid and harsh conditions in the Guajira Peninsula, passing by the tropical forests of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, to the idyllic beaches of the Tayrona National Park. The trip’s highlights include a three day trip to the northernmost point in South America: Punta Gallinas located in the Guajira peninsula, where the amazing sand dune beaches meet the sea. As well, the cultural experience to see the Wayuu indigenous group’s way of life. Also a four day trek to La Ciudad Perdida of the Tayronas, known as “The Lost City”, one of the best restored and preserved archeological sites in the country. It is located in the Buritaca Valley in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, the highest costal range in the world. Lastly Tayrona National Park and Caribbean beach lodge. Visit to the famous Tayrona Park with an easy gentle walk to enjoy some of Colombia’s best beaches in the country.

La Ciudad Perdida of the Tayronas, known in English as The Lost City, is one of the best restored and preserved archeological sites in the country. It is located in the Buritaca Valley in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, the highest costal range in the world. There are only two ways to visit the citadel; one is trekking or the other is a helicopter flight. The trek implies not only a challenge, but also an additional experience that enriches the trip. The trek to the Lost City is an adventure in itself with its beautiful and varied landscapes, fauna and flora. Trekking in a tropical rain forest is hot and with high levels of humidity, which can be challenging for some. One of the main rewards of this program is getting an insight into the traditional way of living of the indigenous groups of the Sierra.

The Best Hikes in Ecuador is a selection of great trails in the country, targeting a moderate difficulty level, with the comfort of good and charming accommodation along the way. The program aims to cover a wide area, providing a very good insight into Ecuador’s landscapes and culture. The itinerary visits some of the most iconic places such as: Pululahua crater, the crater lakes of Cuicocha and Quilotoa, the National Parks of Cotopaxi and Chimborazo and the lovely towns of Otavalo & Baños.

After the trek, the itinerary goes north to the region of Otavalo, to ascend up to a lovely summit called Fuya-Fuya, followed by a visit to the Otavalo market and the archeological ruins of Chocasqui.

On this ten day itinerary we offer you an exciting program for one of the best trekking programs in Ecuador: The Condor’s Trek, an absolutely beautiful, authentic and remote area which is rarely visited by other tourists or mountaineers. The trek starts on the Eastern flank of the Ecuadorian Andes, just above the tree line and with panoramic views to the valley that descends into the Amazon basin, as well as the mountain sides of the Antisana Volcano and its glaciers. The trail starts at 3642 meters and follows a series of trails through the Paramo lands (Andean highlands). There is lush vegetation and beautiful lakes along the way. The itinerary progressively ascends to the highland plateau where Cotopaxi National Park is located. Hiking under the foot of Iliniza, following an extensive valley of high grass, which leads to the extinct Sincholagua pass on the volcano of the same name. This is the highest point of the trek and one of the best view points to the national park; in the background the mighty Cotopaxi volcano, highest active volcano in the world, and the neighboring Pasochoa, Ilinizas and Corazon. The trail continues over the highland and will take the hiker up to Cotopaxi’s glacier before descending into the valley known as the “volcanoes avenue” that divides the Eastern and Western volcanoes of Ecuador.

The Huayhuash circuit is among the best treks in the world and it is a well-deserved title. Located in the Peruvian Andes, close the Cordillera Blanca, the Huayhuash range has some of the most dramatic peaks in the Andes like: Siula Grande (Dramatised in the film “Touching the Void”), Carnicero, Jirishanca and Yurupaja (second highest mountain in Peru) just to name a few. The semi-circular itinerary goes over several mountain passes, one of them above 5000 meters and most above 4500 meters. This is a high altitude trek, quite remote, physically demanding and long distances to be covered, but worth every step of the way. On top of all that, even though it is a famous trek, it sees less visitors than similar popular treks around the world. An experience not to be missed!!

The Guiana Shield is a 1.7 billion year old Precambrian geological formation in northeast South America and is one of the regions of highest biodiversity in the world. The shield has 1400 vertebrate species and 1680 bird species and is overlain by the largest expanse of undisturbed tropical rain forest in the world.  Join us as we explore the Guianas: Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana.  Marvel at Kaieteur Falls, the highest single drop waterfall in the world and discover one of the greatest untouched rainforests left.  This region is home to endangered species such as jaguar, giant anteater, giant river otter, tapir and so much more.  Spend time learning about the cultures of the region with visits to Amerindian and Maroon communities.  Be amazed at the Space Centre in French Guiana and relive the story of Papillion at Devils Island. This really is an untouched and totally unique part of South America.

An adventure that includes a visit to Kaieteur Falls, the highest single-drop waterfall in the world by volume. Then head deep into the Iwokrama forest and explore the canopy from the walkway through the tree tops. Stay at the Atta Rainforest Lodge with forest trails and hummingbird garden. Experience the Machusi culture at Rewa and with indigenous guide climb mountains, explore the rivers and ponds and see amazing tropical wildlife.

This classic small group scheduled departure takes in many of the highlights of Guyana: start in historic Georgetown with a market and city tour. Fly across endless rainforest into the heart of the country to visit Kaieteur Falls, the tallest single-drop waterfall in the world. Continue to the one million acre Iwokrama Rainforest Reserve for jungle hikes, boat trips, the Iwokrama Canopy Walkway, and the chance to see the elusive jaguar. Stay in the Makushi village of Surama before going into the savannahs in search of giant river otters, giant anteaters and taking part in the black caiman research project at the indigenous community of Yupukari.
