This hiking trip offers the unique experience of discovering three countries in one week. The south of Austria meets Italy and Slovenia. Experience an exciting and easy hiking trip in impressive mountain and natural landscapes characterized by the three cultures of the countries. The start is in Villach. Here you can feel the near south. In Italy you walk through a small part of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region. This is characterized by the Carnic mountain group of over 100 kilometers in length, between the catchment areas of Drau, Gail and Tagliamento, and the Julian Alps, which are still the border between Slovenian and Friulian language area. A highlight of the tour is certainly the Italian pilgrimage town of Monte Lussari. No less impressive is the Slovenian part of the hiking tour, as it leads to the Triglav National Park and the fashionable ski resort of Kranjska Gora - also known as the Kitzbühel of Slovenia.

Itineraries

Day 1

Arrival in Villach

Individual arrival at the hotel in Villach.

Day 2

Villach – Feistritz a.d. Gail + 200 m - 125 m 5 - 6 hours

You start in the lively city center of Villach and find yourself in the middle of nature in no time. By train you get from the city center to Villach Warmbad. You walk along the old Roman road and the river Gail through the nature reserve Schütt. The impressive Dobratsch massive is watching over you. At the end of the stage you reach the small village Nötsch and finally Feistritz a. d. Gail.

Day 3

Feistritz a. d. Gail – Camporosso +375 m – 1,075 m 4 - 5 hours

A transfer takes you to the starting point of your trip at the Feistritzer Untere Alm. Today your tour leads across the border to Italy, mostly through untouched natural landscape with beautiful views of the Dobratsch and the idyllic Gailtal valley. This mountain range is characterized by a beautiful alpine landscapes. On the descent you will soon see the church of Camporosso, today‘s stage destination.

Day 4

Camporosso – Monte Lussari – Camporosso + 975 m - 975 m 4 - 5 hours Option with cable car: + 0 m - 975 m 2.5 hours

Today‘s round trip takes you to the famous Monte Lussari, which has always been the destination of many pilgrimages by Italian, Slavic and German believers. The experience is rounded off with a breathtaking view of the entire mountain range of the Julian Alps, skillfully staged in front of the terraces of the inns. Alternatively, you can take the cable car from Camporosso to Monte Lussari (ticket not included) and then easily return to the starting point.

Day 5

Camporosso – Kranjska Gora + 275 m - 200 m 5 hours

Transfer in the morning to the starting point of the tour. At the foot of the mighty Mangart Group, you will hike to the White Lakes (Laghi di Fusine), small and fascinating lakes formed by glaciers embedded in a dense spruce forest at the foot of the Mangart Mountain. Depending on the season, enjoy the fascinating reflection of the surrounding mountains. Through wide plateaus, wet meadows, peat bogs and pine forests, you walk over the Italian Slovenian border to the famous ski resort Kranjska Gora.

Day 6

Rest day or roundtrip around Kranjska Gora + 325 m - 325 m 4 - 5 hours

Today you are free to explore the surroundings of Kranjska Gora - also called the Kitzbühel of Slovenia - or to enjoy a rest day. There are plenty of opportunities for smaller and larger hiking tours around this chic place. It is the gateway to the famous Triglav National Park, around Slovenia‘s highest mountain.

Day 7

Kranjska Gora – Villach + 625 m - 950 m 4 - 5 hours

By using public transport you will reach Ratece. You leave Slovenia today and return to Austria. From the wide high valley of Kranjska Gora the route leads up to the Monte Forno, which marks the border between the two states. The descent then takes you to Arnoldstein and by train you return to Villach.
