On the well-developed cycle paths around the lakes, leisure cyclers and families are well treated. The region in the south of Austria with its Mediterranean climate has almost 200 lakes, some of them you will explore. The special location near the border to Slovenia and Italy makes two great day trips possible. The first tour will lead you to the famous Alpe Adria cycle path with the probably most spectacular section on the old railway track from Tarvis to Venzone. The second tour starts in Kranjska Gora, the Kitzbühel of Slovenia, and leads you also along the old railway track to Italy and back to Austria. Starting point of this journey is Villach, the cycling capital of Carinthia. Starting there the day trips allow you to enjoy different lakes like Lake Wörthersee, Faaker See, Pressegger See, Ossiacher See and the provincial capital Klagenfurt and the Alpe Adria area – a wonderful cycle tour with the highlights of the region.

The dark green colour of the waterinvites you to take a refreshing dip before returning to Villach /Warmbad or Lake Faak.
Day 3
Round Tour Lake Wörthersee – Klagenfurt 45 km
The first few kilometers you follow the river Drau, passing by a countryside that has kept its naturalness even to the present. By train you travel back to Villach/Warmbad or Lake Faak.
Day 4
Round Tour Tarvisio – Alpe Adria Cycle trail (Italy) 65 km
In the morning the train takes you to Tarvisio in Italy. The border town is a winter and summer sport center. The bike trip is going along the Ciclovia Alpe Adria bike path, an old railway track. The cycling path leads you through a valley called Val Canale and is very spectacular because of a lot of tunnels and bridges high above the valley. You will pass typical Italian villages and unspoiled nature. You go back to Villach with the cycle train which has been specially set up for this purpose.
Day 5
Round Tour Kranjska Gora/Slovenia – Tarviso/Italy 55 km
After a short transfer in the morning to Kranjska Gora (Slovenia) you cycle on the well laid out cycle path along an old railway track to Italy in the Italian border town Tarvis, known for its market and the typical Italian flair. Then it goes back to your starting point Villach on the route of the popular Ciclovia Alpe Adria cycle path.
Day 6
Round Tour Hermagor – Lake Pressegger See 55 km
In the morning you take the train to Hermagor. Today you follow the Gailtal bike path. The wide valley has kept its naturalness and the trip is going along the river Gail. At the beginning you pass Lake Pressegger See, one of the smaller lakes in Carinthia. Before reaching Villach, you pass a nature reserve, resulting from a rock fall of the giant Dobratsch Mountain. Here you cycle directly along the river Gail, which is wide and flat and a lot of people like to jump into the river. Then the path leads through small dreamy villages until you reach Villach.
